Here are a few tips and suggestions
for
helping to keep your floor looking good
Dirt and
Grit
Act as a sanding agent on your wood floor causing scratches, dents and dulling. It is always a good idea to place floor mats at the entrance to the property to trap dirt and prevent
damage.
Water and
Spills
Standard water or leaks can cause a poorly finished floor to warp. Always dry the floor after any
spills.
Hand
Cleaners
Always avoid using soap products on wood floors as this can cause a build up and be a problem when reapplying a new
finish.
Damage
To repair a damaged floor is always hard so prevention is always best, never drag furniture across the floor always lift, place felt pads under legs of furniture so they slide rather then drag across the floor. And large cups under heavy furniture to prevent denting.

rays. Water stains : For mild spots, rub the area with No 2 steel wool and refinish with

off.
Squeaky Floors
When the air in your home becomes extremely dry, your floor loses moisture and contracts. Conversely, when humidity rises, your floor absorbs moisture and expands slightly. Using an air conditioning system in summer and humidifier in winter will keep your
home ís humidity comfortable for you and your floor. Prolonged cycles of shrinking and swelling of your hardwood floor may result in squeaks. To correct this problem, apply liquid wax, powdered soap, talcum powder or powdered graphite between floor boards that are rubbing together. If that doesn't stop the squeak, drive two-inch finishing nails through pilot holes on both edges of the board and hide the hole with matching
Goodfellow wood filler. (Coming

Note: Only use
Goodfellow

Check out that finish!
Perhaps your hardwood floors were installed a few years ago, haven't been taken care of and now look old. What can you do? First check if the finish is worn off or just dirty. Begin in a high traffic area like a
door way and pour several tablespoons of water onto the floor. If the water beads on top, the surface is properly sealed. If the water soaks in immediately and leaves a darkened spot, the finish is worn and water can damage the wood. If the water soaks in after a few minutes and darkens the wood only slightly, the finish is slightly worn. In either case, it's time for
